The popularity of kayak fishing is increasing at an unprecedented rate.
This can be attributed to a number of factors including the low entry level cost, with a GOOD fishing kayak starting from around $700 - $900 up to the Hobie Mirage Drive Kayaks in the $2000 plus range.
Kayak fit out can be as basic or as bling as you want, from a couple of $35 rod holders to rod holders, sounder, GPS, live well etc.
The fact that no registration is required, provided you have not fitted an electric motor, ease of transport and the ability to access areas such as West Lakes and the smaller mangrove creeks make a kayak the ideal fishing platform if you want to get away from land based with out a lot of expense.
Many Metro kayak anglers fish within 600m of the shore line and consistently report good catches of gar, whiting, squid, flathead, and crabs all for the cost of the fuel to get to the beach.
If you are thinking of getting into 'yak fishing' do a little research on the forum, have a look at the different kayak's that are on the market, make a choice and take the plunge you will not regret it, the fun is out there waiting for you.
