1b2017 june boat show4

The 2017 Adelaide Boat Show is just around the corner and this year brings a few changes to the ever popular Binks Marine and Hobie Stand.

2017 will see the introduction of a Hobie Kayak and Hobie Eclipse Pedalboard Display pool. The pool will be situated in the Jubilee Pavilion and will allow you to see the Kayak's and Eclipse boards in action. If your lucky you might even get the chance to have a go yourself!

This year we will also have a Hobie Wave Catamaran at the Hobie Stand (stand number 310) situated inside the Goyder Pavilion. The wave is a fantastic family sailing boat suited to both ocean and inland waterways.

It would be great to see you at the show, and it would be a great oppertunity to see the latest, including the MD180 reversing mirage drive, and to ask any questions of the Binks Marine and Hobie staff at the stand.

The show runs from Friday the 30th of June until the 2nd of July at Wayville Showgrounds.

Tickets are available at the door or from the Boat Show Website: http://www.adelaideboatshow.com.au/index.html

North Optimist

The new Japanese designed radial cut R1, R2 & R4 have now been released!

During the last year North Sails have been working hard on developing these new designs and have run a lot of speed test sessions to set a goal for better pointing and acceleration. They have now finalized the 3 types of design based on the P4 which is their previous successful radial design. The design comes in 3 weight range versions and is now ready for release following very impressive testing results to confirm their better performance.

Nautivela 420's have claimed 1st place in the Open, Women's and Youth Divisions at the 2016 World Championships held in Sanremo, Italy.

Nautivela, the worlds largest 420 builder, was well represented throughout the fleet, achieving some great results that included 1st and 3rd in the women's and youth divisions, and 1st including 5 of the top 10 in the open fleet.

With 262 boats competing over the 3 divisions (open: 110, Women: 84, youth: 68) there was plenty of up and coming talent on show. The wildly varying conditions helped to make the regatta real test for the youngsters ranging from 12 - 23 years (with the exception of one 28 year old crew).

Binks marine are bringing a number of Nautivela 420's into Australia, with some still available to purchase.

Please contact us via our website or call (08) 8294 6211 for further information on how to get one of these World Championship winning 420's.

Hobie Introduces MirageDrive 180 Forward-Reverse System

PDFPrintE-mail

Published Thursday, 14 July 2016

Hobie’s bioengineered MirageDrive propulsion system for kayaks was revolutionary in its inception in 1997 and has been evolving ever since. Now comes the biggest evolution – so far. Introducing the patent-pending Hobie MirageDrive 180 forward-reverse propulsion system that will be integrated into all 2017 model year Mirage kayaks.

md1802-small                                                md180-three-quarters-small

Weighing in at under eight pounds, the MirageDrive 180 produces full power in both directions and offers unprecedented maneuverability. The user can pull one of two shift cables to direct propulsion 180 degrees almost instantly from forward to reverse and back again.

Imagine the possibilities: backing fish out of cover; safely fishing closer to obstructions; or fishing downstream while holding in current. Hands-free propulsion in any direction means better control: to cast, to present baits, and to concentrate on landing bigger fish. And then pictures can be snapped or cold beverage enjoyed on the way back in without ever stopping.

There are two shifters, one marked in green for forward and a longer one in red for reverse, making them easy to identify. Pulling the appropriate cable pivots both MirageDrive fins 180 degrees, reversing the direction of the power output.

Although the forward-reverse capability is the most noticeable improvement to this new generation of the time-tested MirageDrive, it’s not the only significant advancement. The new fins are even more durable, with high strength nylon on the leading and trailing edges. Adjusting fin resistance has also been improved via an easy-access knob. The fin shape, altered to allow the fins to rotate from forward to reverse, provides the same efficient power as past models of ST Fins and ST Turbo fins respectively.

Can the MirageDrive 180 go shallow? Absolutely. Use partial pedal strokes to “flutter” the fins or push one crank arm forward so that both fins automatically fold up flat against the bottom of the hull. This same wing-like action excels for dodging obstacles, shedding weeds and gliding through the water with minimal resistance. It also facilitates landing on the beach or at the boat ramp. The MirageDrive 180 installs in seconds thanks to the Click and Go Mounting System, which also makes removing a snap.

The MirageDrive 180 will be standard with all 2017 model year Mirage kayaks, including the legendary Outback and award-winning Pro Anglers. The MirageDrive 180 is retrofitable to existing MirageDrive kayaks and is expected to be available as a stand-alone accessory by mid-year 2017.
